244. The Big List of Favorite Commercials (part 11)

image

(part 10)

(I also noticed that part 1 from back in 2015 is missing?! Thanks a lot, tumblr, here it is on the wordpress backup – if that ever happens again, let me know)

image

“Target Commercial” Foghorn Leghorn berates Joey Lawerence for not getting school supplies and Hostess snack cakes.

image

“Mead Keepin’ Tabs Commercial” That girl with the big glasses freaks me out so much! Little dork! In the future she will be one of those women that keeps like three planners and she puts stickers in them, and draws in them. She thinks she’s hot stuff on Instagram and Facebook.

image

“Alex Trebek 1988 Jeopardy Commercial” – this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen, and I am living for it. You so know that Alex was chewing up the scenery that day.

I already miss Alex so much.

image

“1984 Dove Bar Soap TV Commercial” –  “My husband notices every part of a woman’s appearance … mine or anyone else’s” … what. He’s sneaking peeks!

image

“DISTURBING CHI-CHIS COMMERCIAL (1983)”  – this commercial is right up Cartman’s alley.

image

“TNT Roach and Any Killer Spray Commercial (1980)” – okay, this is a jam. I hope she got work on broadway.

image

“Brodia.com” (1999) (@6:18)  –  I feel for this girl, we’ve all been there, shaving our legs with a cheapo razor. ow I can feel the stings.

image

“Healthy Choice Bread” (1995) @ 19:20 – the lady likes soft bread.

image

Fox Kids Duck Bumpers (early 1990s)  (2) –  I found these during a Riffbreak episode, and about died laughing. That little duck just ticked my giggle dick. Marc from riffcoms said, “I like how he had two catchphrases, ‘HMM!’, and ‘where’s that trap door?’.”

The little duck comes from clips of Dynamo Duck, originally from France, and voiced by Dan Castellaneta for American audiences. He’s adorable. I would die for that duck.

image

“1983 Federal Express Commercial” – Dang, I don’t know what this guy’s problem is. I like working on Saturdays, nobody is there to bug you.

image

JC Penney Auto Insurance – Kelsey Grammer (1984) – storytime. A couple of years ago I bought a box of tapes from the 1984 Summer Olympics. This commercial showed up and i was like

image

“That’s Kelsey Grammer omgwtfbbq”

and then the tape cut off!

image

McDonald’s 1980 McChicken Commercial – oh no, its the McChicken Gang!

image

Parkay Commercial with Al Franken (1999) – I get that this was before he ran for Senate, and he was a comedian at this point, but this commercial is just weird. Why a Parkay commercial, Al?

image

Velveeta 1988 Commercial – 1. Why would you put a croissant in the microwave 2.Why would you put CHEESE on a croissant 3. This commercial went into Good Mythical Morning territory fast when the kid put the popcicle snowpop in the microwave.

image

“Ryan Bollman in: Ames Department Store Commercial” (1997)  – I’m surprised Ames had the money to hire a Mona Lisa impersonator.  Also, why have a sale on a Friday? Everybody is at work.

244. The Big List of Favorite Commercials (part 10)

image

(part 9)

image

“I Love New York – Stars, 1980s”  – does anybody know if this is Marlene Danielle playing Demeter next to Frank Sinatra? Looks like her!

image

“Kraft Peanut Butter (1984)” (Canada)– let’s all admit it right now, sounds like the kids are saying “crap” instead of “Kraft”. I wish we had Kraft peanut butter in the States.

image

“Magic Mushroom Air Freshener Commercial from the 80’s” – why have I not brought up my Mushroom Man yet?! He’s so adorable. He was even in the print ads for the Magic Mushroom.

image

“Quaker Rice Cakes Commercial”  – when I was real little, my mom would make me pb&j on rice cakes. The rice cake packaging looked just like this.

image

Sun Light Dish Soap Commercial 1988 I adore the baby lemon chicks.

image

“1982 Kraft Products Devo “Whip-It” style TV commercial” – Because I too love a complete oil spill on my salad.

image

“Fox Five Days Away From Friday Commercial 1991″ – I love that this is their answer to ABC’s TGIF. Show the only sitcoms we have on the network all on one night – except for Drexell’s Class for some reason?

image

“Wayne Knight 1989 Dawn Dish Detergent Commercial” – guys were not allowed to eat quiche or wash pots until 1989.

image

“7-Eleven Burger Bar 1987 TV commercial” – things we’ll never see again: a serve yourself condiment bar. The 7-Eleven down the street from my job had just set up a help yourself hot dog counter, so you know, you didn’t have to bother the cashier if you wanted a hot dog. Welp, it’s all saran-wrapped up now and you have to bug the cashier if you want a hot dog, and if you want stuff on the hot dog.

image

Ritz Crackers (Canada) – starts @ 4:21 – as most know, I’ve been pretty much nauseated for the last month due to recent surgery on my stomach. I’ve been watching a LOT of old commercials in bed to help with my sadness. This Canadian Ritz commercial turned my stomach! Now, I love asparagus. But not on a Ritz! Sardines and a boiled egg on a RITZ?! Your snack ideas are atrocious, Mr. Jazz Dancer.  A GRAPE TOMATO.

244. The big list of favorite commercials

image

(part 8)

image

GRAND HOTEL commercial – this looks like a normal commercial for a broadway show–until you get to the end where ordinary people are giving their reviews of the show. THIS OLD LADY DOESN’T SHUT UP. First she praises Cyd Charisse’s MOVEMENT and VOICE. HER HUSBAND WORKS IN THE AREA.  Check out the redheaded lady behind her, she is dying laughing.

image

Black & Decker – “GE Irons” (Commercial -1986) – things you don’t see in 2019: a commercial for irons.

image

Volkswagen Golf commercial 1996 – this is one I remember seeing a lot on MTV back when I was in middle school. I thought this was what an adult was gonna be like, zipping around from business to business in a little car, coffee shops on every corner. The lady says she sells “cafe-chino machines” – but you see her deliver portable coffee carafes to a place.

image

“1987 – Hallmark – Thank you for a night to remember” – who else thought that this was a PSA for someone with a drinking problem? I thought the husband had a drinking problem because he spilled the wine everywhere while doing magic tricks. Sounds like something Blossom’s brother Anthony would do, right?

image

Zayre”  – I love how willing the grandpa is to pose with the salesguy. blessed grandpa.

image

“MTV: Billy Corgan, age 8 (1997)″ (@ 3:31) – I love that someone is clearly throwing pumpkin guts at the kids.

image

Squeak’s Catique (1993) (@ 2:10) – I love that this store bought commercial time so they could run a commercial for their cat themed shop during a syndicated episode of Matlock. I looked up the address and it looks like the building is a Cosmoprof store now. I feel like if this store opened today in the age of cat memes and cat videos, people would be all over it.

image

Cats The Musical Broadway Public Interaction TV Commercial  – doesn’t really need a description.

image

Korbel Champagne Commercial 1994 – this commercial always cracked me up when I was a kid.

image

1985 Wrinkle Free TV commercial – anybody else notice that back in the day there were a lot of commercials where inanimate objects had human faces? These are clothing fibers that are wrinkled.

image

NBC Promo 1980 – a promo for a show about a benji knockoff named Boomer, the disastrous first season of Facts of Life (yes, that’s Molly Ringwald) and Pink Lady and Jeff. I tried to watch Pink Lady back when the old Trio network showed it that week when Joel Stein “took over” the network for a week, and it was unbearable.

image

Gillette clicker (1983) (starts at 1:02) – when I was 8, and would watch QVC all the time, I remember seeing these butane powered curling irons, and wanting one so bad. Even at 36, I’m like “..exactly where would I take my cordless curling iron?” I don’t have an exciting life.

image

It’s on fox (1990) – early Simpsons hype along with Married with Children, In Living Color, and True Colors.

image

Clothestime Hairy Guy Commercial – (commercial clip show hosted by Phil Hartman) sweaters were thin in the mid 90s.

image

1996 Cool Shavin’ Ken Commercial – what little girl wanted this? Sweet 90′s haircut though, Ken.

244. The big list of favorite commercials

image

(previously

image

We know the drill by now, twice a year, my birthday and Christmas I showcase 10 or so of my favorite commercials.

image

“Gatorade Commercial 1985″ – was there a gatorade shortage in 1985? The commercial starts with “the groceries have trouble keeping it on the shelves!” so they suggest the powder canister or Gatorade in cans, which I’m sure cost a small fortune back then.

image

“Plymouth Voyager Garfield Cat Commercial 1996″ – Well, Garfield is lazy, I guess he would be attracted to this lazy looking minivan.

image

“KOFY TV20 FUNNY DOG BUMPER” – when I am sad, these KOFY bumpers from San Francisco with people’s pets give me so much life. ESPECIALLY YORKIES. ESPECIALLY YORKIES THAT FALL OFF OF SHORT SURFACES.

image

“People Magazine 1980 TV commercial”  – 1) the nosy mom coming into the girls room during her sleepover 2) that giant sandwich that’s just sitting on the girl’s hope chest 3) when they put down their sandwiches after the mom shows them the article about “what it means to be a fat woman in America”. Screw off, lady.

image

“New Late Night with Conan Promo 1993 (not mine)” [I had to upload this one, I had to scrounge around in my hard drives to find it!] the felt doll the Amish made for Conan reminds me that I need to make more Conan dolls for my etsy shop.

image

“Kraft Deliciously Light Ranch salad dressing commercial (1992)” – that kids hair! The second you see it you know this isn’t the run of the mill salad dressing commercial.

image

“Wasa Crispbread commercial 1990″ – so if I eat these crackers, I’ll become sexy?

image

“1985 – WKBW – Jeopardy promo” – it’s so funny to see Alex out of character.

image

“1993 Vaseline Intensive Care Hand & Nail Joan Lunden Commercial” – I love seeing the nail break over and over and over again [aw, like my nails], and how serious Joan is about Vaseline Intensive Care. There’s a whole series of these commercials with a fake news set and a fake lab.

image

“1987 Miller Lite Rap Commercial with Joe Piscopo” – oh wow. no.

image

“LONG VERSION FUNNY VINTAGE 80’S FRENCH’S MUSTARD COMMERCIAL W TALKING FOOD” – those little sandwiches are so cute!

244. The Big List of Favorite Commercials

image

As is tradition, on my birthday in June, and on Christmas, I post a list of my favorite old commercials from the 1980s and 1990s.

image

“Burger King Christmas 1986 TV commercial”

Oh man, that 🎶Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing, Baby🎶 is almost like a Christmas jingle to me. I love how in the 1980s McDonalds and Burger King tried their best to make chicken nuggets office party food. It gets cold in 2.5 seconds!

image

“Pervy “Easy to Be Me” Panty Hose Commercial1980″

So stock boy gets turned on by looking at women’s pantyhose-d legs all day.

image

“McDonald’s Commercial with Cathy”

Why does Cathy deal with the same saleswoman every time she buys clothes?

image

“DuPont Silverstone Cookware”

I’ve always liked the Silverstone logo, but not in my omelet.

(Okay, so right after I began this entry,  I noticed this commercial in a block of commercials from 1979. Oops.)

image

“White Castle ad – 1982″

Maybe because I was watching this one in the middle of the night, but it almost brought a tear to my eye thinking about being homesick, in a dorm.

image

Ernest in ‘Quite the Little Shopper’

This is the Tab commercial I was trying to show you guys a few months back!  I found it! He tosses a Peppridege Farm Cake!

image

Tropicana Juice Sparklers

This was something I found 12 years ago from Simpsons Season 1&2 tapes a friend sent me. This is peak season 1 Simpsons commercials.

image

Toyota Truck Commercial

Jerry! Gerry! Jerry!

image

Handi-Wrap II Commercial

So what ever happened to handi-wrap 1? I love the lime jello dude.

image

California Raisins commercial with Michael Jackson

image

1990’s 1992 McDonalds Bonnie Blair Bacon Double Commercial

I’m mad that her mom is telling her gold medalist speed skater daughter to pick up the pace ‘cuz she’s hungry. Also, you didn’t see too many female athletes in fast food commercials back then. Nice.

image

North Shore Animal League ad w/John Schuck, 1981

Dang, back then they would pay for your gas if you adopted an animal! I know the quality of this is bad, but it is from from 1981….

image

Taco Bell Commercial (1995)

She don’t do burgers but she’ll do tacos!

image

Jason Alexander 1984 Lipton Soup commercial

At first I thought that Jason was in a full arm cast, but I guess its just a potholder glove. Also, onions.

image

Alf Commercial, December 4, 1988

(at around 1:01)

I didn’t know that aliens could squirt.

image

[BANNED] Burger King “Mr. Rodney” (1984, USA)

image

Spamburger Hamburger! (1992 commercial)

Spamburgers always look so good on TV, but once you make one at home its so icky. Burnt on the outside, squishy on the inside…

image

Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish“ commercial, 1990

I think this break is just a compilation of WTVZ (the FOX station where I grew up) commercials because there’s also commercials for Arsenio and Chevy Chase’s shows in there too.
